Harvey Snavely, 91, of Mount Pleasant died Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Harvey was born November 21, 1934, in Charles City, the son of Floyd and Florie (Martin) Snavely. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1952. On June 26, 1955, Harvey was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Messer at the First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. The couple made their home in Mount Pleasant where they raised their five children in a home full of love and laughter. Harvey worked at Blue Bird and Metro Mail. He served in the United States National Guard for eight years. Harvey was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as an Awana leader and sang in the church choir. Harvey was musically gifted, a talented saxophone player and played in a dance band called the 5 Pennies. He also directed a handbell choir. Harvey was a past member of the Mount Pleasant Kiwanis, a Cub Scout leader, and a volunteer firefighter.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 71 years Ruth Ann; five children Deb Oliva of Mount Pleasant, Denise Snavely of Mount Pleasant, Doug (Julie) Snavely of Danville, Dave (Tammy) Snavely of Mount Pleasant, Dan (Heather) Snavely of Mount Pleasant; ten grandchildren Mindy, Eric, Sarah, Emma, Tyler, Mikayla, Drake, Brooklynne, Palmer, Olivia; several great grandchildren; sister Janet Granger of Reeves, LA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James “Rocky” Snavely, and sister Beverly Feltz.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. Pastor David Strope will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for Calvary Baptist Church and EveryStep Hospice. The Olson-Yoder Funeral Home is caring for Harvey and his family.
