Listen to Obituary

Gene Stanley Wyse, age 90, of Wayland, Iowa, passed away at Parkview Home Monday, December 15, 2025.

Gene was born November 2, 1935, near Olds, Iowa, on the family farm, to Mahlon and Frances (Wenger) Wyse. He attended Prospect Country School and later Wayland High School, graduating in 1954. Over the years, he generously served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, elder, Parkview Home board member, and Crowded Closet volunteer. More than any title, he lived his faith daily. Quietly and consistently, Gene cared for others with a compassionate and open heart. He never sought attention, yet the number of lives he encouraged and helped will never be fully known. He was a friend to all he met.

On November 8, 1958, Gene married the love of his life, Alice (Roth) Wyse. After 67 years of marriage, their bond only grew stronger, rooted in devotion, shared purpose, and enduring love. Gene took over and expanded the farm from his father and found so much joy in farming with his son, Curt, for years. After 51 years of farming, he moved off the family farm for the first time and into Wayland in November 2009.

Gene was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, and he will be remembered for the steady, faithful way he showed up for his family, his church, and his community.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Gene Wyse, on November 2, 2004; his son-in-law, Lonnie Bartel, on May 18, 2024; his parents, Mahlon and Frances; his brother, Richard Wyse; and his sister, Sharon Wyse Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Wyse; his daughter, Julia Bartel; his daughter-in-law, Jodi Wyse Woline; his grandchildren, Kelsey (Kendal) Wyse Swartzentruber, Kaleb Wyse, Linea (Nick) Bartel Rochford, Hannah (Alan) Bartel Randall, and Amanda (Zeke) Bartel Gunnink; and five great-grandchildren, Kaidece, Karcyn, and Kyan Swartzentruber, and Elsa and Kit Rochford. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald (Barb) Wyse; his sister, Rebecca Wyse; and his brother-in-law, Duane Miller.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Bethel Church in rural Wayland. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery.
