Carson David Ryan, 17, of Washington, died September 28, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, as a result of a hunting accident.
Carson was born on April 17, 2008, in Cedar Rapids, the beloved son of Heidi Snodgrass. He spent the first five years of his life in Mount Pleasant before moving with his mother to Washington, where he attended school and built a strong circle of friends.
Carson loved going out to eat with friends and family. He also loved fishing, and hunting, and the outdoors. Carson was a fierce competitor who enjoyed basketball, track, and his first year of football. He was well liked by his peers and was a friend to all.
He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Washington High School and attended Faith Baptist Church. He was an active member of the community and worked at the YMCA, helping with the Youth Sports Program. Carson was dedicated in his academics. He was looking forward to attending UNI and majoring in Accounting.
More than anything, Carson valued time with his family and friends. He shared a special bond with his little cousins, whom he adored, and they loved him just as dearly in return.
Carson is survived by his mother, Heidi Wheeler. Grandparents, Barb Snodgrass, Robyn Stewart, Shawn and Taresa Ryan, Jeff and Karin Wheeler. Great-grandparents, Helen Snodgrass, Marsha and Tom Horak and James and Marilyn Ryan. Aunts and uncles, Kelli and Ty Welu, Erin Ryan, Kara and Chuck Sinnard, Joel and Mary Schuldt, Nicole Genck, Kristin Schuldt (Brent Rickie), Lindsay Wheeler (Eddie Quinones), and Kelsie Wheeler (Jesse Quinones). Cousins, Kennedy and Parker Welu, Tucker Graf, Holden Sinnard, Jaxon and Emma Schuldt, Makayla, Cooper, and Brayden Genck, Tristen and Kaylee Rickie, Edison and Ealind Quinones, Avram, Onix, and Oliver Quinones. He is also survived by his stepfather, Kelby Wheeler.Carson is also survived by many great aunts, great uncles, and extended cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, David Snodgrass, great-grandparents, James Snodgrass, Gilbert and Phyllis Behrens, Janice Ryan, and Joe Richards.
Funeral Service for Carson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Old Washington Middle School Gymnasium. Burial will follow in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. The family will be present to greet friends from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. The family requests everyone dress casually or wear Washington Demon gear. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Washington Community School District Foundation for a scholarship to be given in Carson’s name.
